About this Workshop

In this workshop, participants will explore the basics of Node.js and Express by making a HackerLog web app. You’ll guide them through setting up their JavaScript development environments, installing Visual Studio Code, downloading and testing an app locally, and seamlessly deploying it with Microsoft Azure.

Web Development with JavaScript

Fullstack JavaScript web development is increasingly growing in popularity. Knowing how to set up a Node development environment and being familiar with the Node ecosystem (including tools like NPM) are in-demand skills. This workshop will teach you how to get started and where to go next.

Microsoft Azure

Microsoft Azure is a cloud platform with more than 100 services and tools for developers. 95% of Fortune 500 companies run on Azure (and learning these skills can help you land your first job!). Easily deploy web apps, mobile apps, database, AI apps, and blockchain networks. Whatever your preferred programming language and development workflow, Azure has something for you.

Requirements / Prerequisites

Participants will need to be able to install Node, NPM, and Visual Studio Code on their computers. While no background knowledge is required, familiarity with JavaScript is helpful.
